Research progress of genetic engineering and stress physiology in white clover

White clover(Trifolium repens) is a high quality forage with characteristics of good palatability, high nutritional value. It is also an ideal ground cover plant for its graceful profile and strong stress tolerance, and widely cultivated around the world. Researches on transgene, stress physiology, genetic variety of white clover in recent 30 years were reviewed in this study. Besides, problems and corresponding strategies of with clover researches were analyzed, and a prospect on application of white clover in the future was also made.
