Analysis on morphology and growth of new lines of tetraploid hybrid wheatgrass

  • To study plant morphology and growth characteristics of two new breeding lines SZB-01 and SZB-02 of tetraploid hybrid wheatgrass(Agropyron mongolicum), the plant growth dynamic, phenophase, plant height, steam width, morphological characteristics of leaf and spike, and tillering capacity of them were comparative analyzed, taking parents A.mongolicum cv. Keng and A.cristatum cv. Fairway, and their inverse and obverse cross hybrid F1 as control(CK). The results showed that the plant growth rate of SZB-01 and SZB-02 is significantly higher than that of their parents and F1. They are late-maturing plants. The growth periods of SZB-01 and SZB-02 are 141 d and 129 d, and their growing days are 241 d and 236 d, respecitvely. SZB-01 and SZB-02 have a relative higher plant height and tillering capability, compared with CK. The highest plant height and tillering capability were observed in SZB-02. These two new lines have relative wide leaf width and tassel width. Compared to each other, SZB-01 has a longer tassel length, while SZB-02 has a wider leaf width.
