Study on mixculture of alfalfa with grasses

To discuss alfalfa(Medicago sativa) cultivars and mix-planting combinations which are fit to cultivate in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, the adaptability and productivity of different planting models, including single planting alfalfa and mixculture of alfalfa with grasses were studied. The results showed that, for single planting, yield indexes of Caoyuan No.3 alfalfa and Zhongcao No.3 alfalfa are all higher than those of Goldepress alfalfa and Epress alfalfa, under condition of cutting 2 times per year. The yields of Elymus sibiricus and Bromus inermis are lower than those of single planting 4 alfalfa cultivars, but there is no significant difference among them(P0.05). Mixculture enhances the plant height, regeneration rate and yield of Caoyuan No.3 alfalfa, Zhongcao No.3 alfalfa, E.sibiricus and B.inermis. The yield of combination of alfalfa and B.inermis is higher than that of combination of alfalfa and E.sibiricus.
